This year, I spent a fair amount of time exploring the Grenadines. For people who are aware of the Grenadines, it is often known as a place where the very rich and famous hang out. Mustique, long known for celebs and royals. Up-and-coming Canouan battling to steal some of Mustique's mystique. And of course Tobago Key. Often cited as a must-go for snorkeling and diving. All wrapped up in a season of Below Deck filmed in this area last year.
They are hard islands to get to unless you are jumping on your private plane or the Below Deck super yacht.
But there is one island that often falls under the radar, but I would suggest might be the best of them all. Bequia. Pronounced Bec-Way (kinda). It sits just a dozen or so miles south of St Vincent.
Bequia is often known as a sailing destination. Admiralty Bay has a long history as a friendly harbour for sailors, well protected and offering easy anchoring. But the island is much more than a sailing stopover.
The main town has a fantastic St Vincent-style boardwalk along a cool harbour. Great restaurants (many), several hotels, Airbnb, and two of the best beaches I have seen in the Caribbean. The people are friendly. There are great hikes—lots of cool stuff to do. And the thing is. St Vincent International Airport has direct flights from New York, London, Toronto, etc., and it is an easy 30-minute ferry to this hidden gem.
Highly recommended, great place to hide away for a week or two or three. Lots to do. Easy to get to. And as close to off-grid as most people want.
Highly recommended. So the answer to which way is clearly Bequia. But do not tell many people.
